It appears that the Washington Wizards and Capitals will remain in Washington, D.C. Ted Leonsis, the owners of the two teams, and D.C. Mayor Muriel E.
Bowser inked an agreement on Wednesday that will see the teams remain in downtown D.C. until 2050. The D.C. Council still needs to approve the contract. With this news, a previous plan to bring the Wizards and Capitals to Virginia was unexpectedly abandoned.
Lisa Delpy Neirotti is an associate professor of sport management at the GW School of Business and the director of the MS in Sport Management Program. She has over thirty years of experience as a professor at GW teaching sport, event, and tourism management. She also teaches at the International Olympic Committee’s Executive Master’s in Management of Sports Organizations (MEMOS) program and created the GW Green Sports Scorecard to help improve the sustainability of sporting venues, organizations, and events.
In addition to her duties at GW, Dr. Delpy Neirotti does economic and market research studies for a variety of professional teams, sponsors, and sport event organizations. These include the Olympic Games, World Cup, and College Football Bowl Games. She has been a consultant, volunteer, or researcher at hundreds of major sporting events since 1984, including 19 consecutive Olympic Games, 5 World Cups, and other significant sporting events.
