Andy Murray has stated that he’ll forgo participation in this year’s Olympic Games unless he believes he stands a chance of securing a medal.

The British tennis star emphasized that he won’t compete simply because it’s his “last tournament.”

Earlier this month, Murray revealed his intention to retire from tennis after the summer, following a challenging period of poor form, intensifying speculation about his future in the sport.

Being somewhat ambiguous about his upcoming schedule, the three-time Grand Slam champion refrained from specifying which competitions he’ll enter for the remainder of the season, only indicating that he won’t extend his playing career much beyond the summer months.

In a recent interview with The Times, Murray confessed to feeling uncertain about participating in the Olympic Games later this year. He expressed his desire to compete only if he believes there’s a realistic chance of winning a medal, acknowledging the depth of talent among his fellow British players and his reluctance to take a spot on the team solely because it might be his final tournament.

Murray recalled a conversation with Salisbury before their previous Olympic appearance, where he prioritized doubles due to an injury, indicating his belief in having a better chance at securing a medal in doubles rather than singles. He expressed regret over their loss in the quarter-finals, highlighting the missed opportunity despite being in a promising position.
