Oregon’s Bullpen Struggles as Arizona Thwarts Series Sweep Attempt
In a disappointing turn of events for the Oregon Ducks, their bullpen faltered under pressure as Arizona managed to evade a series sweep.
Despite a strong start, highlighted by Anson Aroz’s home run and Justin Cassella’s RBI single, Oregon couldn’t maintain its momentum, ultimately falling 15-4 to the Wildcats on Sunday afternoon at PK Park.
Brock Moore, Logan Mercado, and Collin Clarke endured a rough outing, collectively allowing 12 runs, 11 earned, on 11 hits, five walks, and a hit batter over just 3.2 innings.

Oregon’s head coach, Mark Wasikowski, expressed his disappointment at failing to secure the sweep, emphasizing the team’s need to maintain consistency in winning two out of three games per weekend.
Although Oregon briefly held a 2-0 lead after two innings, Arizona quickly bounced back, tying the game in the fourth inning and seizing the lead in the sixth with timely hits, including an RBI single by Adonys Guzman.
Despite a solid performance from Kevin Seitter, who struck out eight over 5.1 innings, the Ducks couldn’t contain Arizona’s offense.
Arizona further extended their lead in the seventh inning, capitalizing on errors and timely hits to take a commanding 7-2 lead. Although Oregon attempted to rally in the bottom of the inning with RBI singles from Cassella and Drew Smith, Arizona’s pitching and defensive efforts stifled any comeback attempt.
The Wildcats put the game out of reach in the eighth inning, scoring six runs highlighted by a grand slam from Brendan Summerhill. Despite a late RBI single from Summerhill in the ninth, Oregon couldn’t mount a comeback.
Looking ahead, Oregon will aim to regroup as they prepare to host Seattle for a four-game series starting Wednesday. The Ducks will seek to bounce back from this defeat and regain their winning form as they continue their Pac-12 campaign.
