Tyreek Hill is without a doubt the most successful wide receiver in Miami Dolphins history. He is a key component of the Dolphins offense and one of the best in the game.
To further legitimize it, Hill established a goal last year to reach 2,000 receiving yards in the regular season, ideally within the first sixteen games. With a game average of 123.5 and projections of 2,223 yards over eighteen games and 1,976 yards over sixteen, he was well on his way to his goal.
These were his averages for the first twelve weeks. In week fourteen, against the Tennessee Titans, Hill was hurt with a horse collar tackle that resulted in a hip drop tackle. As a result, his yards per game decreased to 79.5 during the final four games.With quarterback Tua Tagovailoa and himself healthy for the past two seasons, Hill’s output has been the most in the league.
His desire to reclaim his 2022 dream of becoming the first athlete to reach 2,000 yards in a season—ideally in sixteen games—makes sense.
The record is reachable if Hill hits around the same goals as he did in 2023, but is this objective beneficial for the team? I would have to decline. When Tua hits the right men and makes the right reads, the offense plays at its best. A point guard and a skilled distributor.
In certain games, Tyreek will perform like he’s in a video game, and in others, defenders will make Tua beat them.
Not that Tua shouldn’t aim for Tyreek above all others, or that he shouldn’t take risks outside of the structure. He most certainly should, but Tua’s offense works best when he reads everyone correctly and has faith in them.
This year, the offensive needs to improve and find balance. It facilitates the change to late-season football, when the temperature drops and scoring becomes more difficult.
Tyreek cannot be the only receiver on the squad, and his 2,000-yard touchdown could interfere with team objectives. Although I can understand why he would desire it for his legacy, the Dolphins should only be focused on winning playoff games in order to get to the Super Bowl.
