Some GMs expressed a preference for trading for receivers rather than engaging in bidding wars for unrestricted free agents, citing the economic principle of supply and demand. They believe it’s more prudent to acquire players with existing contracts and favorable financial terms, especially those who can bring added value to their teams.
Players like Brandon Aiyuk of the San Francisco 49ers, Tee Higgins of the Cincinnati Bengals, Courtland Sutton of the Denver Broncos, D.K. Metcalf of the Seattle Seahawks, and Davante Adams of the Las Vegas Raiders are mentioned as potential targets. Aiyuk has been a subject of trade speculation since the Super Bowl, with reports suggesting the 49ers attempted to trade him to the Jacksonville Jaguars but without success. There have been rumors about Aiyuk’s discontent, although his agent denies them.
Metcalf and Sutton are both locked into contracts for two more seasons, with substantial salaries. Higgins has expressed a desire to leave Cincinnati, making him a possible trade candidate. However, Adams appears less likely to be traded, having expressed his commitment to Las Vegas and disinterest in moving elsewhere.
