Former Cowboys DT Jonathan Hankins Is Of Interest To The Seahawks

The Seattle Seahawks may seek to bolster their defensive line by acquiring Johnathan Hankins, a formidable run-stopper from the Dallas Cowboys. Last season, the Seahawks struggled with their defensive line performance, prompting them to target improvements during free agency.

Having recently secured the services of Leonard Williams, whom they acquired before the trade deadline, the Seahawks are now eyeing Hankins, according to ESPN’s Brady Henderson. With an extensive 11-year NFL career, Hankins, who will turn 32 at the end of March, spent the past season and a half with the Cowboys, starting in all 14 games he played. He tallied 27 total tackles, two tackles for loss, three sacks, and two passes defended during his tenure with Dallas.

Hankins, originally drafted from Ohio State, has played for multiple teams over the years. He began as a second-round pick for the New York Giants in 2013, later joining the Indianapolis Colts and the Oakland/Las Vegas Raiders before being traded to the Cowboys in October 2022.

Throughout his career, Hankins has amassed impressive statistics, including 403 total tackles, 39 tackles for loss, and 17.5 sacks. His primary strength lies in his ability to stop the run, utilizing his substantial 6-2, 320-pound frame effectively.

During the past two offseasons, Hankins signed one-year contracts worth approximately $1.3 million each. Should the Seahawks secure him for a similar price, he would be a valuable addition to their defensive line rotation.
