The Green Bay Packers have recently inked a deal with cornerback Gemon Green, previously a sporadic starter for the Michigan Wolverines between 2020 and 2022. During his tenure with Michigan, Green predominantly played as an outside cornerback, accumulating 1,109 snaps in that role compared to just 95 snaps in the slot. Throughout his college career, he managed 68 tackles, one interception, and deflected 13 passes.
Although not initially invited to the combine during the pre-draft phase in 2023, Green showcased his physical attributes at Michigan’s pro day, standing at 6’1” and 183 pounds. His performance included a 40-yard dash time of 4.53 seconds, a 37.5” vertical jump, a shuttle time of 4.51 seconds, and a three-cone time of 7.13 seconds, as reported by NFL Draft Scout.
Green, considered a cornerback prospect in the 2023 draft class, attained a Relative Athletic Score (RAS) of 6.43 out of a possible 10.00, ranking 730th among 2042 cornerbacks from 1987 to 2023. Following the draft, he joined the New York Giants as an undrafted free agent but secured only a brief stint on their practice squad during the cutdown period. Since August, he has been without a team, until now with the Packers.
During his preseason with the Giants, Green saw action both as an outside cornerback (34 snaps) and a slot corner (26 snaps). Additionally, he contributed to the kick-off team and served as a gunner on the punt team.
Given the returning cornerback roster of Jaire Alexander, Eric Stokes, Keisean Nixon, Carrington Valentine, Corey Ballentine, and Robert Rochell, Green’s addition to the Packers likely aims at securing a practice squad spot, as making the 53-man cut appears challenging, especially considering the possibility of the team adding another cornerback in the upcoming draft.
