With Diggs no longer on the team and no clear No. 1 wide receiver replacement, some expected Allen to take a tougher stance as the Bills enter offseason workouts. However, Allen, 27, stated that he sees this as an opportunity to grow as a leader amidst the team’s roster changes.
Acknowledging the challenge of parting ways with a key player like Diggs, Allen emphasized his role as a quarterback and leader, focusing on his responsibility to perform at his best and guide his teammates.
Despite the departure of Diggs and Gabe Davis, Buffalo Bills’ general manager Brandon Beane dismissed the notion that they urgently need a No. 1 wide receiver, emphasizing the importance of versatile players who can execute plays effectively. Beane expressed openness to acquiring top talent if it fits the team’s strategy.
The current wide receiver lineup includes Justin Shorter, Khalil Shakir, and Curtis Samuel, but none with Diggs’ level of experience.
Head coach Sean McDermott acknowledged the loss of Diggs as significant but sees it as an opportunity for other receivers to step up. He mentioned discussing the trade extensively with Allen due to its impact on the team’s short-term and long-term plans.
