Phoenix Suns guard Bradley Beal is showing some lightheartedness in the face of a disappointing end to the season, as his team was swept by the Minnesota Timberwolves, marking the first time in his career he’s experienced such a defeat. Beal, who had previously expressed determination not to be on a swept team, couldn’t help but recall his earlier statement with a smirk during his media appearance, quipping, “I’ll be damned, man.”
Despite his attempt at humor, Beal surely isn’t oblivious to the seriousness of the Suns’ season finale. His lackluster performance in Game 4, where he managed only nine points and six turnovers, certainly didn’t help matters. Additionally, a move he made during the game inadvertently stirred speculation about coach Frank Vogel’s job security.
Beal’s arrival at the Suns last offseason was met with high hopes and significant investment, aimed at bolstering the team’s chances for an NBA title. However, what transpired was a season marred by injuries, resulting in Beal posting his lowest points per game average since 2015-16. With a substantial contract and a full no-trade clause in place, it appears Beal will remain with the Suns for the foreseeable future, meaning he’ll need to step up his game come next season.
