12-year veteran guard Kevin Zeitler has penned a fresh deal with the Detroit Lions, marking a new chapter in his illustrious career. After spending the 2023 season with the Baltimore Ravens, Zeitler, a former first-round pick, brings a wealth of experience to his new team. His journey in the NFL has seen him don the jerseys of the Cincinnati Bengals, Cleveland Browns, and New York Giants before landing in Detroit.
Despite his seasoned tenure in the league, Zeitler’s Pro Bowl selection in the 2023 season was a first for the accomplished offensive lineman. This recognition was long overdue, given his consistent performance, notably in shielding Lamar Jackson on the field. With 15 appearances and starts in the same number of games, Zeitler rounded off the season with an impressive 71.6 PFF grade, positioning him as the 15th best among 79 guards. The Ravens themselves enjoyed a successful season, clinching the best record in the AFC and advancing to the AFC Championship Game, though they were ultimately defeated by the Kansas City Chiefs.
Zeitler’s journey in the NFL began when he was drafted as a first-round pick by the Cincinnati Bengals in the 2012 NFL Draft. Making an immediate impact, he secured a starting role on the offensive line, contributing to the team’s playoff run in his rookie season.
Despite his success with the Bengals, Zeitler later moved to the Cleveland Browns after the 2016 season, signing a new deal with the divisional rival. Although he maintained his high level of play, postseason success eluded him during his tenure with both the Bengals and the Browns.
Subsequently, Zeitler transitioned to the New York Giants, where he started in 31 out of 32 possible games, providing crucial protection for Daniel Jones. Despite his efforts, the Giants couldn’t secure a playoff victory during his time there.
After the 2020 season, Zeitler returned to the AFC North, joining the Baltimore Ravens. Over three years with the team, he appeared in 49 out of 51 possible games, playing a key role in establishing one of the league’s top offensive lines.
