Enter Xavier Worthy, whose record-breaking 40-yard dash time of 4.21 seconds at the combine has sparked interest. Photos of McDaniel engaging with Worthy during the Texas Pro Day fuel speculation, albeit Texas’ abundance of draft prospects must be acknowledged.
While the Dolphins could use depth at wide receiver alongside Hill and Waddle, they also have other pressing roster needs. However, it’s reminiscent of their move last year when, despite no urgent demand at running back, they drafted Achane for his exceptional speed.
In the short run, Worthy could amplify the Dolphins’ swift offense, potentially succeeding Hill in the long term. SI NFL reporter Albert Breer hints at Miami’s interest in Worthy, envisioning him as a speed addition and a possible successor to Hill.
Worthy is among the top receivers in consideration for the first round, primarily due to his exceptional speed. The Dolphins, with the 21st pick, could secure him, potentially through a trade. Alternatively, they might pick him up later in the first round or early in the second round.
Despite other immediate needs, Worthy remains a tantalizing prospect for the Dolphins, overshadowing contenders for those positions like Barton, Verse, Latu, Murphy, Guyton, or Powers-Johnson.
