Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa has shown significant improvement over his four-year tenure in the NFL, earning recognition as a standout player. In the 2023 season, he led the league in passing yards with 4,624, along with 29 passing touchdowns and a completion rate of 69.3 percent.
While some still hold the view that he is only slightly better than average, former NFL player Robert Griffin III asserted on ESPN that Tagovailoa ranks among the top five quarterbacks currently in the game. Griffin emphasized the importance for the Dolphins to invest in Tagovailoa due to his exceptional performance as he enters the final year of his rookie contract.
Despite criticism for missing four games in 2022, Tagovailoa’s absence had a notable impact on the Dolphins’ performance, winning only one of those games and struggling to surpass 20 points in the others. However, in the following season, the team boasted the NFL’s second-highest scoring offense, leading in passing yards and rushing touchdowns, resulting in an 11-6 record and a playoff berth, only the fourth in over 20 years for the franchise.
After dealing with multiple concussions in 2022, Tagovailoa demonstrated durability by playing in all 17 games of the 2023 season. Although Miami faced skepticism for their performance, having defeated only one team with a winning record during the regular season, and subsequently losing to the eventual Super Bowl champions, the Kansas City Chiefs, in the playoffs by a significant margin, Tagovailoa earned his first Pro Bowl selection, indicating his growing experience and prowess.
Looking ahead to the 2024 season, Miami will encounter challenges with the departure of key defensive players such as Xavien Howard, Christian Wilkins, and Jerome Baker. However, with a potent offense, the Dolphins are poised to make a strong impact in the upcoming season.
