The Cincinnati Bengals made significant moves regarding their quarterback situation just before the 2024 NFL Draft, announcing two deals. They secured the services of backup quarterback Jake Browning, who stepped up admirably during Joe Burrow’s absence last season due to injury.
Browning’s performance, despite a struggling offensive line, showcased his potential as a reliable backup. The Bengals re-signed Browning, a second-year player from the University of Washington, to a two-year contract, keeping him with the team through the 2025 season. Although financial details were not disclosed, Browning’s deal likely involves the league minimum due to his status as an exclusive rights free agent, a situation criticized for not adequately compensating his demonstrated value.
In addition to retaining Browning, the Bengals brought back another familiar face by signing Logan Woodside, their 2018 draft pick, to a one-year deal. Woodside, a fifth-year player from the University of Toledo, has limited playing experience with the Tennessee Titans and Atlanta Falcons, completing a handful of passes across 13 career games.
