Following the conclusion of the 2022-23 season and Coach Belichick’s departure, the need for a new GM became imminent. Eliot Wolf, the team’s scouting director, assumed the interim GM role leading up to the NFL Draft, during which he orchestrated a successful draft strategy. Despite Wolf’s strong performance, the Patriots are exploring options both internally and externally for the permanent GM position.
While there are experienced candidates available in the market, Patriots owner Robert Kraft has shown loyalty to the current internal staff, praising their development under Belichick. With the team’s advantageous salary cap situation and high draft position, Kraft sees an opportunity for the Patriots to position themselves favorably.
