NFL teams are allowed to host up to 30 players for pre-draft visits ahead of the 2024 NFL Draft, but for aspiring players, navigating this process can be challenging.
One such player facing hurdles is Cooper DeJean, a highly regarded defensive back prospect. DeJean’s preparation for the draft was constrained by medical re-checks stemming from a fractured fibula he sustained in mid-November. Coupled with a late pro day workout in mid-April, DeJean had limited time to travel for meetings with interested teams.
With only four visits feasible, DeJean likely prioritized engagements with teams showing a strong inclination to draft him in the first round. Ultimately, he met with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Seattle Seahawks, Philadelphia Eagles, and Buffalo Bills.
DeJean commenced his collegiate career at Iowa as a safety before transitioning to cornerback post the 2021 season. Regarded as one of the draft’s premier defensive back prospects, he is valued for his versatility to excel at both cornerback and safety, areas of need for the Bills. Additionally, DeJean boasts skills as a proficient punt returner.
During his tenure at Iowa, DeJean tallied impressive statistics, including seven interceptions, 13 passes defensed, and three defensive touchdowns. Notably, his breakout year in 2022 saw him secure five interceptions. He also showcased his abilities in special teams, amassing 31 punt returns for 406 yards and one touchdown.
At his pro day in mid-April, DeJean showcased exceptional athleticism, posting notable figures such as a 4.46 40-yard dash, a 38.5″ vertical jump, and a 10’4″ broad jump. His remarkable performance earned him a high Relative Athletic Score (RAS) of 9.85, further solidifying his first-round potential.
However, Buffalo faces uncertainty regarding DeJean’s availability, as other teams with earlier draft picks, namely the Seahawks (No. 16), Steelers (No. 20), and Eagles (No. 22), also spent time evaluating him.
