The Montreal Alouettes made public their acquisition of an American wide receiver on Friday. Williams, who previously played for Colorado State and Tennessee during his college years, later transitioned to the Miami Dolphins. He notably excelled as one of the top receivers in the FBS during the 2018 season.
Preston Williams, hailing from Colorado State, embarked on his football journey at Tennessee, where he showcased his talent over 14 games across the 2015 and 2016 seasons, securing 16 catches for 247 yards and 2 touchdowns. His noteworthy performance against Western Carolina earned him the SEC Freshman of the Week title in September 2015.
After transferring to Colorado State, Williams had to sit out the 2017 season due to transfer regulations but still engaged in track and field activities, earning recognition in the indoor triple jump category. However, it was in 2018 when he truly shone, making significant contributions to his team with 96 receptions, 1,345 receiving yards, and 14 touchdowns, positioning himself as one of the top FBS receivers nationally.

His achievements at Colorado State, including ranking among the program’s all-time leaders in receptions, receiving touchdowns, and yards, led to his selection as First Team All-Mountain West. Despite having one more year of eligibility, Williams opted for the 2019 NFL Draft, joining the Miami Dolphins as an undrafted free agent.
Williams’ NFL journey with the Dolphins saw flashes of brilliance, including a notable rookie season where he emerged as a key receiver before suffering a season-ending ACL injury. Subsequent seasons were marred by injuries, leading to limited game time and eventually his release by the Dolphins ahead of the 2022 season.
Following stints with the Carolina Panthers and a brief tenure with the DC Defenders of the UFL, Williams now finds himself in the CFL, signing with the Montreal Alouettes just ahead of their upcoming training camp. His signing follows a similar pattern to that of Austin Mack, another receiver who joined the Alouettes and later secured a spot with the Atlanta Falcons during the offseason.
