Philadelphia 76ers’ standout Joel Embiid has confirmed his participation in the upcoming 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.
The finalization of the 12-player roster for the Summer Games by USA Basketball was announced on Wednesday. Embiid will join renowned players such as LeBron James from the Los Angeles Lakers, Kevin Durant from the Phoenix Suns, and Stephen Curry from the Golden State Warriors in representing the United States in Paris.
The roster also includes Bam Adebayo (Miami Heat), Devin Booker (Phoenix Suns), Anthony Davis (Los Angeles Lakers), Anthony Edwards (Minnesota Timberwolves), Tyrese Haliburton (Indiana Pacers), Jrue Holiday (Boston Celtics), Kawhi Leonard (Los Angeles Clippers), and Jayson Tatum (Boston Celtics).
Grant Hill, the director of USA Basketball men’s national team, expressed gratitude to the selected players for their dedication to representing their country on the international stage. He acknowledged the wealth of talent present in the United States and commended the players’ eagerness to be part of the national team.
Embiid, who obtained American citizenship in September 2022 and holds dual citizenship with France, will make his debut appearance in the Olympics this year.
Leading Team USA will be head coach Steve Kerr from the Golden State Warriors, with assistant coaches Mark Few from Gonzaga University, Tyronn Lue from the Los Angeles Clippers, and Erik Spoelstra from the Miami Heat.
The men’s national team aims to secure its 17th gold medal in basketball during the upcoming Summer Games, following their victory over France in the 2020 edition.
