The upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy between India and Australia will mark a significant occasion as it will be contested over a five-match Test series for the first time since the 1991-92 season. Cricket Australia made this announcement recently, indicating that the fixtures for this highly anticipated series will be disclosed soon. While India has engaged in five-Test series with England in recent times, their encounters with Australia have typically been limited to four Tests.

In a joint statement by the BCCI and CA, they expressed their commitment to preserving the esteemed tradition of Test cricket, highlighting the significance of extending the Border-Gavaskar Trophy to a five-match series. The BCCI secretary, Jay Shah, emphasized their dedication to upholding Test cricket’s legacy and their collaboration with Cricket Australia in this regard.

India has enjoyed remarkable success against Australia in Test matches lately, clinching victory in their last four series, including two triumphs on Australian soil. However, Australia, led by Pat Cummins, managed to defeat India in the World Test Championship final in London in 2023.

The Chairman of Cricket Australia, Mike Baird, expressed immense delight over the extension of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy to five Tests, recognizing the intense rivalry between the two cricketing powerhouses and the excitement it generates.
