The New York Giants have high expectations for Devin Singletary, their notable offseason addition at running back, anticipating him to perform comparably to the recently departed Saquon Barkley.
According to Adam Wells of Bleacher Report and Mike Sando of The Athletic, an NFL executive expressed confidence that Singletary can match Barkley’s productivity but at a much lower cost.
In terms of performance, Singletary and Barkley posted similar numbers in 2023. Singletary recorded 898 rushing yards and four touchdowns, whereas Barkley had 962 yards and six touchdowns. The two runners have nearly identical averages over the past three years, with Singletary averaging 4.5 yards per carry to Barkley’s 4.1, despite Barkley’s injury challenges.
The Giants have committed to Singletary with a three-year, $16.5 million contract, significantly less than the $37.75 million Barkley received from the Philadelphia Eagles for the same term. Although Singletary may lack Barkley’s size and explosive ability, he’s proven to be efficient and benefits from a Giants offensive line that is poised for improvement following the upcoming NFL Draft.
