The Green Bay Packers are exploring their options regarding Christian Watson’s future, with interest in Xavier Legette emerging as a potential replacement before the 2024 NFL Draft.
In discussions with The Draft Network, Legette disclosed his recent visit to Green Bay as one of his top-30 visits. Although he has engaged with numerous NFL teams, the Packers’ attention to Legette stands out.
Standing at 6’1″ and weighing 221 pounds, Legette represents an archetype of receiver with exceptional height, weight, and speed qualities sought after in this draft. Should the Packers harbor concerns about Watson’s ability to regain full speed or maintain consistent fitness, Legette presents a viable long-term alternative, possibly on Day 2 of the draft.
Regarding Legette’s profile, while it remains uncertain if the Packers are actively seeking a wide receiver, Legette aligns closely with the team’s established criteria for prospects.
Legette’s football journey began with acclaim in South Carolina, although his recruitment by Power Five programs was limited. Opting to stay in-state, he joined the Gamecocks.
Despite initially flying under the radar, Legette made a significant impact in 2023, securing 71 receptions for 1,255 yards and seven touchdowns, earning him second-team All-SEC recognition.
In pre-draft evaluations, Legette’s impressive physical attributes were evident, boasting a Relative Athletic Score (RAS) of 9.9 out of 10, highlighted by a remarkable 40-inch vertical jump.

Since Javon Walker in 2004, the Packers haven’t invested a first-round pick in a skill player. Instead, they’ve found success uncovering talent in later rounds, exemplified by emerging rookies like Jayden Reed and Dontayvion Wicks in 2023.
The Packers could opt to maintain their approach, allowing their young talents to mature further. Players like Reed, Wicks, Romeo Doubs, and Bo Melton may experience significant growth in 2024.
