Former Green Bay Packers players are venturing into new territories this offseason, and wide receiver Equanimeous St. Brown has at last found his next team after a period of anticipation.
According to NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport’s post on April 12, St. Brown has reached an agreement with the New Orleans Saints. Despite the Saints boasting young talents like Rashid Shaheed and A.T. Perry alongside Chris Olave, St. Brown’s seasoned experience could offer a valuable addition to their roster.
St. Brown’s journey in football, though not as illustrious as that of his younger brother, has seen him persist in the league since being selected as a late-round draft pick. Initially a 3-star recruit from California, he opted for Notre Dame over offers from esteemed programs like LSU, Miami, and Penn State.
During his three-year tenure with the Fighting Irish under Brian Kelly, St. Brown showcased his prowess, particularly in his sophomore year of 2016 when he thrived alongside quarterback DeShone Kizer. Wrapping up his college career with 92 receptions, 1,484 yards, and 13 touchdowns in 26 games, St. Brown caught the attention of the Green Bay Packers, who drafted him in the sixth round of the 2018 NFL Draft.
Despite flashes of promise in his rookie season, an ankle injury sidelined him for the entirety of his second year in the NFL. Following two seasons in a backup role for the Packers, St. Brown embarked on a one-year stint with the Chicago Bears in 2022, during which he earned a career-high 16 starts and secured another one-year deal for 2023.
Meanwhile, St. Brown’s younger brother, Amon-Ra St. Brown, has been making waves in the league, earning first-team All-Pro honors in 2023 with impressive stats.
Now, Equanimeous St. Brown has the opportunity to bring his veteran presence to the relatively sparse wide receiver lineup of the Saints in 2024. His performance in training camp could potentially earn him playing time.
In addition to St. Brown’s move, other former Packers have also found new homes this offseason. Notably, Aaron Jones swiftly joined the Minnesota Vikings after parting ways with the Packers, while Darnell Savage and Josiah Deguara secured deals with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Dean Lowry will be suiting up for the Pittsburgh Steelers after his tenure with the Bears in 2023.
As former Packers embark on new chapters, Green Bay has also been active in reshaping their roster, signaling an eventful offseason for both current and former players alike.
