Barone fell ill on Sunday at the team hotel just before Fiorentina’s scheduled match against Atalanta, leading to the postponement of the game. He was swiftly taken to a hospital in Milan.
As of Sunday night, Fiorentina reported that Barone, who is set to turn 58 on Wednesday, is in a “critical but stable” state. According to the club, Barone’s vital functions are being supported by artificial mechanical techniques, and no prognosis has been given yet.
