Barkley’s decision to join the Eagles on a three-year contract worth £30 million came after unsuccessful negotiations with the Giants, effectively pitting him against his former team twice a year.
Despite Barkley’s expressed desire to remain with the Giants long-term, his move to their division rival sparked frustration among some fans, including former player Tiki Barber, who voiced strong disapproval.
In response to Barkley’s departure, Coach Daboll emphasized the transient nature of NFL relationships, acknowledging the inevitability of players moving on to new teams. While expressing respect for Barkley and other departing players, Daboll underscored the competitive nature of the league, wishing them well except when facing the Giants.
Barkley, in turn, engaged with critics on social media, notably referencing Barber’s own departure from the Giants in 2006. Despite the backlash, Barkley now finds himself as the focal point of the Eagles’ running game, joining forces with quarterback Jalen Hurts.
The Eagles, however, face challenges with the retirement of key player Jason Kelce from their offensive line. Nonetheless, they have potential reinforcements in players like Cam Jurgens, who has shown promise in previous seasons.
At 27 years old, Barkley aims to recapture his top form after overcoming injury setbacks, while the Giants continue to address deficiencies in their offensive line, which has been a point of weakness in recent seasons.
