Wales have sprung a surprise by including Captain Aaron Ramsey in their Euro 2024 play-off squad despite recent injury woes.

Ramsey, aged 33, has had limited playing time for Cardiff City due to knee and calf injuries but has made a swift recovery, much to the delight of Wales boss Rob Page.

The squad also features Leeds United’s Ethan Ampadu and Daniel James, who are set to earn their 50th caps if selected. Additionally, midfielders Rabbi Matondo from Rangers and Dylan Levitt from Hibernian have been recalled.

There are notable absentees due to injury, such as Niall Huggins, Joe Morrell, and Tom Bradshaw, while Tom Lockyer continues his recovery from a cardiac arrest suffered in December. Manager Page expressed confidence in the squad’s depth and form, highlighting the increased game time for several players, including David Brooks and Kieffer Moore.

With a larger squad named for the upcoming fixtures against Finland and potentially Poland or Estonia, Wales appears to be in a strong position for the decisive matches.
