Stefon Diggs, formerly a key player for the Buffalo Bills in the AFC East, has been traded to the Houston Texans, leaving the New England Patriots with one less offensive threat to contend with. The trade, which involved a 2025 second-round pick going to Buffalo, was reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter. In exchange, the Texans will receive a sixth-round pick in 2024 and a fifth-round pick in 2025, alongside Diggs.
Diggs played a vital role in Buffalo’s offense over the past four seasons, averaging impressive statistics such as 1,343 receiving yards on 111 catches per season, with a total of 37 receiving touchdowns. His impact against the Patriots was particularly notable, with an average of 78 yards per game, six-plus catches, and seven touchdowns in nine career games, eight of which were as a member of the Bills. During Diggs’ time in Buffalo, the Bills won six out of eight regular-season games against the Patriots, showcasing his influence on the field.
His departure from the AFC East is seen as positive news for the Patriots, although they still face a significant challenge in surpassing the Bills, who have dominated the division for the past four seasons since Tom Brady’s departure from New England. Diggs played a crucial role in Buffalo’s success, being the primary target for quarterback Josh Allen, averaging 161 targets per season and leading the team in receptions for four consecutive seasons.
With Gabriel Davis, the second-highest catching wideout in the past two seasons, now playing for the Jacksonville Jaguars after leaving Buffalo in free agency, Allen will have to adapt to a completely revamped wide receiver group in 2024. This situation leaves the Bills in greater need of starting wide receivers, particularly lacking the WR1 capabilities that Diggs provided. This development may benefit the Patriots, led by Jerod Mayo, and strengthen DeMarcus Covington’s defense.
