Australian limited-overs leg-spinner Adam Zampa has decided to skip this year’s Indian Premier League (IPL) season with the Rajasthan Royals, citing exhaustion from a hectic 2023 as his main reason.

Zampa, who played a significant role in Australia’s victory in the 50-over World Cup in India, opted out of the 17th IPL season, mentioning fatigue from continuous cricket as the cause.

On the Willow Talk podcast, Zampa expressed that the combination of last year’s full IPL season, the World Cup stint in India, and the upcoming World Cup made him realize he couldn’t give his best to the Rajasthan Royals. He emphasized the importance of being in top form for the World Cup over participating in the IPL this year.

While Zampa’s withdrawal has somewhat affected the Rajasthan Royals, the team’s spin department remains strong with Indian players Ravichandran Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal. Zampa, 32, also mentioned personal reasons for his decision, including the wellbeing of his young family and the challenge of securing a spot in the team’s starting lineup, highlighting the difficulty of balancing professional commitments with family life and physical health.
