The Chicago Bulls experienced a regrettable moment during Tuesday’s game against the New York Knicks, one they’d likely prefer to forget, especially in the age of the internet.
Starting the second quarter at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois, the Bulls found themselves trailing 36-27. Following a clean steal from Knicks’ Bojan Bogdanovic, the Bulls had a prime 3-on-0 fastbreak opportunity. Torrey Craig, a Bulls forward, had an open path to the basket for what should have been an easy score. However, Craig opted for a flashy move, attempting to self-lob an alley-oop off the backboard. This decision triggered confusion, as Bulls center Andre Drummond mistook Craig’s move as a pass to him, resulting in a collision between the two teammates and a failed dunk attempt.
The attempt to execute such a flamboyant play while trailing by nine points was questionable on Craig’s part. The fact that it ended in a mishap caused by his own teammate amplified the blunder’s magnitude.
Despite their efforts, the Bulls ultimately succumbed to the Knicks with a final score of 128-117. The Knicks, vying for homecourt advantage in the Eastern Conference, emerged victorious.
In terms of individual performance, both Craig and Drummond contributed four points each. Interestingly, Drummond’s attempted block on Craig, which resulted from their collision, didn’t officially register in the box score.
