The Cincinnati Reds announced today that Ian Gibaut, a right-handed reliever, has completed his rehabilitation assignment due to ongoing forearm discomfort. Gibaut, who has yet to pitch for Cincinnati this season, commenced his rehab on April 5th in Dayton. In his initial outing with the Dragons, he threw 2.0 scoreless innings, tallying one walk and four strikeouts.
Subsequently, he advanced to Triple-A Louisville, making three appearances. However, in two of these outings, he failed to complete an inning, reaching his pitch limit prematurely. Across all three games, Gibaut conceded a total of five runs in just 2.1 innings, yielding five hits, two walks, and striking out three.
Notably, Gibaut’s fastball velocity, which typically exceeds 95.0 MPH throughout his career, experienced a slight decline during his rehab stint. While his fastball averaged just over 93 MPH in his Triple-A outings, he briefly peaked at 94.3 MPH in one game before dropping to 93.1 MPH in his final appearance before his recall.
Shifting focus to the minor leagues, Cam Collier, one of the Reds’ Top 25 prospects, has been impressing with his performance. Collier, the Reds’ 2022 1st round draft pick, recently showcased his prowess by hitting two home runs in a single game for the High-A Dayton Dragons, part of a 3-hit performance. With this, Collier’s exceptional start to the season persists, boasting a batting average of .340/.354/.681 and accumulating five home runs in just 11 games. This power surge is noteworthy considering Collier’s age of 19, as he had only hit six home runs in 111 games last season, albeit in the pitcher-friendly Florida State League.
